Senior Real Estate Paralegal Lisa Carrouth

At the Floyd Law Firm, we are only as great as our staff – and we have amazing staff!

Recently, our own Senior Real Estate Paralegal, Lisa Carrouth, was chosen to be part of the South Carolina Lawyers Weekly 2022 list of “Unsung Heroes at South Carolina Law Firms”.

Their 2022 list of 13 legal professionals include a firm owner, attorney, of counsel, COO, partners, specialists, and paralegals – spanning the state in Columbia, Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Greenville, Myrtle Beach – and of course, Surfside Beach where our firm is located.

Per S.C. Lawyers Weekly on November 23, 2022, they wrote, “Every successful law firm has someone (or many folks) behind the scenes who turn the gears. It could be a paralegal, a legal assistant, or even an attorney — no matter their title, what they do is indispensable. We like to give these champions their due. You can read their profiles in the Nov. 21 print edition of South Carolina Lawyers Weekly, and online…”

Lisa Carrouth’s story in S.C. Lawyers Weekly makes it known that she is a generous mentor who demonstrates patience and kindness when less experienced staff turn to her for guidance. At the age of 7 she was already learning the value of teamwork while helping her grandfather in a concession stand at the YMCA. “He is the one who taught me to show up and work hard, and I credit him for the work ethics I now have,” she said.

Lisa graduated from Lander University in her hometown of Greenwood, SC, with a degree in Political Science and minor in Sociology. She had intended to become a lawyer, but she set her sights on a career with good job benefits in state government. She was working at a grocery store when she was offered a part-time job in an unemployment office. “At the time, a grocery store job paid $12 an hour, the unemployment office paid $7 an hour and my hopes were dashed, so I continued working at the store.”

When Lisa heard an advertisement on the radio for the paralegal program at Greenville Technical College in 1999, she enrolled, persevered, and earned an Associate degree in Paralegal Studies – despite still working her full-time job and enduring an hour-long commute each way.

Soon, Lisa began working for a sole practitioner, with a focus on Civil, Probate, Estate Planning, and Family Law. She later transitioned into Real Estate Law, which she loves and really enjoys. “The best part of my job is watching folks’ reactions when they purchase their dream home,” she says. “The stress on their faces at the first meeting completely melts into exuberance at closing.”

Lisa Carrouth takes pride in the fact that she never let go of her own dreams – and we’re glad she didn’t! This January will mark her third year with our firm and we are grateful to have her as part of our team.

In her own words she said, “It was very hard to accomplish my career. I am proud that I never gave up and I continued toward the prize of working in the legal field.”

Helping our attorneys that practice Real Estate Law – Founding Partner Dalton B. Floyd Jr., Partner Patricia H. Anderson, Attorney Fatjon Cake, and Of Counsel Bradley A. Floyd – Lisa has easily proved herself to be a true asset to our legal practice.
