The case was featured in South Carolina Lawyers Weekly, revolves around a tragic wrong-way truck collision on July 29, 2023. The intoxicated driver of a rented commercial moving truck struck the couple, who were driving on a one-way street. The female client suffered severe injuries, including a displaced fracture of the left femoral neck and other critical injuries, while the male client faced multiple surgeries for a femoral fracture and concussion. The clients, initially dating at the time of the incident, pursued legal action against the employer of the intoxicated driver due to minimal liability coverage.

Clients: a man and a woman who were dating, were driving the man’s truck when struck by a rented commercial moving truck going the wrong way on a one-way street. The moving truck’s driver was intoxicated, and both clients suffered injuries that required multiple surgeries. The moving truck’s driver was charged. Because the moving truck had minimal liability coverage, clients pursued a claim against his employer. During the course of treatment and litigation, the clients married. The case was settled at a pre-suit mediation.

Injuries alleged: Injured female client: closed displaced fracture of the left femoral neck; closed complete rupture of pubic symphysis; instability of the left sacroiliac joint; closed fracture of the fourth metatarsal bone of the right foot; non-displaced fracture of her right third toe; broken bone in her right leg that was not immediately diagnosed and required surgeries several months after the collision. Injured male client: a femoral fracture that required multiple surgeries concussion; burn to ear that required stitches.

Settlement Amount: $2.4 million
