In South Carolina, deadly motor vehicle accidents are on the rise

Drivers these days face an abundance of dangers. In the United States, motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for those under 50 years of age. A recent crash involving three vehicles claimed the life of one person in Richland County, South Carolina. The accident occurred during the afternoon hours at a popular intersection.

According to accident reports, a Jeep SUV and a Toyota sedan were stopped at the intersection traffic light. Reportedly, the driver of a Ford van was unable to stop at the intersection and slammed into the rear of the Toyota. This ignited a chain reaction crash and caused the Toyota to collide with the rear of the Jeep SUV, reports said.

Authorities said a male passenger in the Ford van was seriously injured and rushed to a local hospital. Tragically, the man later died from his injuries. Police said the man sustained fatal injuries even though he was wearing a seat belt. The crash remains under investigation, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

In South Carolina, more and more vehicles are sharing roadways across the state, contributing to the rise in accidents. Thankfully, the majority of motor vehicle accidents are minor. However, an increasing number are proving to be serious or fatal. Families who have suffered the loss of a loved one due to the negligence of another in an accident could benefit from discussions with an knowledgeable legal representative. A successfully litigated lawsuit could result in a substantial monetary award that could help families with end-of-life expenses and other financial hardships.
