Motor vehicle accidents: Motorcyclist killed in recent crash

South Carolina is home to an abundance of scenic roadways that are frequented by motorcyclists throughout the year. However, motorcyclists often face unique challenges and risks that may not be present for those who are traveling by automobile. Due to their smaller size, motorcycles can be harder for other motorists to spot, which can increase the odds for an accident. Since motorcyclists are completely exposed with minimal protection, motor vehicle accidents involving motorcycles are more likely to result in serious injury or death.

A recent accident in York County claimed the life of a motorcyclist. The accident occurred at night on East Highway 160. According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a Nissan car was attempting a left turn and pulled into the path of the motorcyclist.

Reports indicate that the motorcycle slammed into the car, which threw the motorcyclist from the motorcycle and onto the roadway. Although he was wearing a helmet, the motorcyclist was dead on the scene, according to authorities. Police say the accident is still under investigation.

Unfortunately, accidents involving motorcycles typically increase during the warmer months, since roadways across South Carolina commonly become crowded and congested this time of year. However, it is important to know that South Carolina families have options at their disposal that may ease the pain and suffering associated with losing loved ones in motor vehicle accidents. If negligence is proved, the surviving family members can hold the responsible party accountable by filing a wrongful death suit. Compensation awarded from a successful claim could help with medical costs and other end-of-life expenses.
