Motor vehicle accidents often fatal for any bicyclists involved

It is crucial for drivers to remain aware of their surroundings. When drivers fail to do this, they may cause motor vehicle accidents that could have devastating consequences for those involved. A South Carolina bicyclist was recently killed after being struck by a car.

Police stated that the collision occurred on Highway 378. For reasons that are still unclear, a vehicle traveling westbound struck a bicyclist from behind. The car then continued on, fleeing the scene. Further details of the crash have not been released at this time.

The victim was taken to the hospital where he tragically succumbed to his injuries. Reports do not indicate that the driver was hurt in the collision. Police identified the suspected driver in the incident. They arrested him the following day and charged him with a hit-and-run and for driving with a suspended license.

Whether or not a driver is charged with a criminal offense, a deceased victim's surviving family are typically entitled to file a wrongful death claim in civil court against the person or persons believed to be responsible. When such a claim successfully proves negligence on behalf of a defendant, plaintiffs are usually awarded monetary damages that can be used to help pay for medical bills, funeral costs and any other expenses related to the incident. Any families who have lost loved ones in motor vehicle accidents may find it beneficial to retain the services of experienced South Carolina personal injury attorneys for advice and support regarding the legal recourse available to them.
