Motor vehicle accidents frequently prove fatal for pedestrians

South Carolina residents should not have to worry about their lives when out walking. Unfortunately, in many areas taking a walk has become nearly as dangerous as driving a car. Drivers who speed or are distracted while driving may cause motor vehicle accidents, which have the potential to result in fatal injuries for pedestrians. A young child was recently fatally injured in one such accident.

Authorities have released few details of the collision at this time. What is known is that a mother was walking with her 3-week-old baby on a recent Sunday evening when the two were struck by a car. The ultimate cause behind the crash has not been determined.

Sadly, the local county coroner confirmed that the baby did not survive the severe injuries she suffered in the incident. It is possible that the mother was also injured, however, her current condition has not been released. The collision is still under investigation by local authorities. No word on whether any arrests have been made or charges filed.

Losing a loved one can be a traumatic experience, especially when the victim is a young child. In this case, the child's mother may have legal options at her disposal to seek compensation for the various expenses that often accompany South Carolina motor vehicle accidents. A successfully litigated wrongful death claim, for example, could provide monetary damages to cover the cost of end-of-life expenses or outstanding medical bills. Through discovering the legal recourse available, victims may be able to find some form of closure after such a tragic experience.
