Slip-and-fall accidents may lead to serious injuries

When businesses or property owners are careless, they may find themselves legally responsible for any injuries that may occur at their facilities. Slip-and-fall accidents are a common reason lawsuits may be filed against businesses in South Carolina and across the country. A woman in another state recently filed such a lawsuit after being injured at a store.

According to the woman, she was shopping at an Albertsons when she tripped over a rug. She claimed that the rug was "improperly and dangerously hidden partially underneath a display." The complaint indicates that the rug was either folded or rolled rather than laying flat, which caused an unreasonable tripping hazard.

The fall resulted in several injuries for the woman, including hitting her face on a display and then hitting her head on the concrete floor, knocking her unconscious. She has reported suffering memory loss and headaches since the incident. Her lawsuit has named Albertsons, L.L.C. and Aramark Uniform & Career Apparel, L.L.C. as defendants, as the rug was reportedly under the care of Aramark.

Not only can slip-and-fall accidents result in serious injury, but the unexpected medical expenses may cause a financial strain on a person as well. To help cope with the aftermath of such an incident, victims may choose to file personal injury claims against any party or parties believed to be responsible. When such a claim proves negligence on behalf of a defendant and properly documents resulting financial losses, plaintiffs are then typically awarded monetary judgments that can be used to help pay for medical bills and any other related expenses. Experienced South Carolina attorneys could provide more information and assistance to those interested.
