Drinking and driving often results in motor vehicle accidents

Car crashes often result in property damage and serious injury for those involved. A South Carolina man tragically lost his life as a result of the injuries he suffered in a recent collision. Negligent drivers are often a cause of fatal motor vehicle accidents such as this.

Police reported that the victim was a passenger in the car that crashed. For reasons that have yet to be determined, the driver seemingly lost control of the vehicle and drove off the left side of the road. The car then overturned before hitting an embankment.

Reports indicate that none of the four occupants of the car were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision. The victim, who was riding in the front seat, was ejected upon impact and was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the other occupants were injured. The driver is now facing charges for felony driving under the influence causing a death. Police, along with the Highway Patrol Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team are continuing to investigate the accident.

Though criminal charges have been filed against the driver believed to be responsible, the deceased victim's surviving family may still choose to file a wrongful death claim in civil court against that driver. Should the claim be successfully litigated, the claimants could be awarded monetary damages that could be used to help pay for funeral costs and any other related expenses. Any families who have lost loved ones to motor vehicle accidents could consult experienced South Carolina personal injury attorneys for more information and assistance.
