Slip-and-fall accidents may lead to pain and mental anguish

A woman in another state recently claimed that Family Dollar caused her to suffer serious injuries. She has thus decided to file a lawsuit against the store. Those who suffer harm due to slip-and-fall accidents in South Carolina have the right to seek justice in civil court.

In the recent out-of-state case, the woman claimed that, during a shopping trip to one of Family Dollar's stores in December of 2015, she came across boxes in an aisle. The boxes reportedly ended up causing her to slip and fall. The woman asserted that no warning signs had been placed in the area of her fall.

The woman is now suing for both future and past medical expenses as well as lost earnings. In addition, she is seeking compensation for disfigurement, mental anguish, pain and impairment. She is pursuing damages of up to a whopping $200,000.

Unfortunately, slip-and-fall accidents can cause their victims to rack up hefty medical bills and suffer injuries that negatively impact their quality of life. In fact, the consequences of these accidents can easily be felt even years after they have occurred. Fortunately, the property owners who are at fault in these accidents may be held accountable through litigation. A monetary award in a successfully fought suit cannot undo the events leading to an injury-causing slip-and-fall accident, but it can help to address the financial losses and emotional distress caused by the accident. An understanding of what facts have to be proved is likely necessary to prevail in this type of civil case in South Carolina.
