Slip-and-fall accidents just 1 of several types of falls

A slip-and-fall accident can easily occur at a business location in South Carolina that has not been kept up properly. Unfortunately, slip-and-fall accidents may lead to serious injuries that are both physically and financially costly. Besides slips and falls, three other types of falls can take place in business establishments.

A slip and fall occurs when the feet of a visitor at a store, for example, lose secure contact with the floor. Meanwhile, another type of a fall -- a step and fall -- occurs when a visitor is walking on a surface and the height of the surface unexpectedly changes. For instance, perhaps a dip or hole in the surface causes a visitor to fall.

A stump and fall occurs when someone encounters an obstruction or impediment on the floor that he or she did not see. For example, perhaps he or she came across a tacky section of the floor, a bump in a rug or an uneven floor section. Finally, a trip and fall happens when a visitor unexpectedly encounters an object in his or her path -- for example, a step, power cord or children's toy.

Slip-and-fall accidents, along with other types of falls, can unfortunately result in hefty medical bills. They may also prevent accident victims from being able to return to work in a timely fashion, thus leading to financial burdens -- especially for those who are primary wage earners. Those who have suffered injuries in any of these kinds of accidents may have grounds to pursue file premises liability claims in a South Carolina civil court, seeking the recovery of monetary damages based upon proof or the property owner's negligence.
