Highway motor vehicle accidents often lead to death, injuries

A crash recently claimed one person's life in South Carolina, leaving the victim's surviving loved ones questioning how the accident could have happened. In addition, several individuals were injured. These types of motor vehicle accidents often occur due to the carelessness of a motorist, in which case the driver may be held financially responsible for any injuries or deaths resulting from the accident.

The collision occurred on a Friday at a little after 7 p.m. Authorities said a car driver was going east along South Carolina Highway 162. Meanwhile, a pickup truck was going west along the same highway. The pickup truck reportedly slowed down to turn left onto another road.

All of a sudden, both cars crashed into each other. According to officials, two individuals who were in the car suffered serious injuries, while a third one was pronounced dead at the crash scene. The two injured parties were taken to the hospital for treatment. Two individuals in the pickup truck also suffered serious injuries and were taken to the hospital. Authorities continue to investigate the collision.

The police investigation may reveal which driver was at fault in the South Carolina collision. If the driver survived, then he or she may face personal injury claims and even a wrongful death claim. Meanwhile, if the driver was the one who died, the injured parties in both motor vehicles may opt to file personal injury claims against his or her estate as well as anyone else with an ownership interest in the car he or she was driving at the time of the crash. Liability has to be established, based upon a showing of negligence, before any claims for monetary damages will be adjudicated. A financial award may help to address medical bills and other losses tied to these types of motor vehicle accidents.
